An open-plan office layout calls for increased collaboration in MNSC office. Within this open work environment, the introduction of telephone pods provides pockets of private space particularly useful for phone conversations. The 3ft x 3ft pod is designed to comfortably fit a single person, either sitting or standing.
Lightweight, portability and ease to assemble and dismantle are key to the design. The use of nails is minimal. The entire pod is made of 18mm thick plywood panels interlocking with each other and secured with plywood U-connectors. Hence the pod need not be transported as a whole but as individual plywood panels, transportable even through narrow spaces.
Sufficient perforations on two sides allow for cross-ventilation in the pod. The interior is partially cladded with acoustic fibre for sound insulation and echo reduction. Measuring at 100x100mm, three openings on the door are playfully located at heights specific for the door handle, sitting and standing eye levels. This establishes some connection to the outside while maintaining privacy within.
MNSC pods are playful additions to the open workspace, enhancing office productivity especially when phone calls are better made in a more private setting, or simply for a short relaxation.
