House by the Sarawak River
ongoing
93250 Kuching, Sarawak.
Gently tucked into the sloping site adjacent to Sungai Sarawak is the House by the River. Built on a 1.42 acres land with walled up area of 800m², the House by the River consists of 1 main house and 1 guest house for the owner’s sister that visits the family in Malaysia occasionally while residing in overseas country.
Taking advantage of the great Sarawak river, the interior spaces are designed to maximize the visual connections towards the river and its surrounding natural elements, thus maintaining a strong indoor-outdoor relationship of the house. The design explores the tectonic use of materials to create a dynamic outlook while unleashing the full potential of the spaces. Motorized blinds and lattice screens not only protect the family member’s privacy but also reduce exposure from the sun.
