Westwood House

2015

93250 Kuching, Sarawak.

Belong at the old housing area in Kuching, Westwood House is an original corner terrace house built around the 70s.  With the modernization of Kuching through the years, the value of the property located within that area skyrocketed due to its good locality.  Nevertheless, the condition of the house worsens with structural cracks found on first floor slab and staircase, inevitable to the passing of time.

Alteration and addition were carried out to enhance the house’s conditions. New kitchen and steel staircase are added into the internal space. A 50m² side patio with double volume high ceiling with red brick laced screen are added along the long elevation that faces the harsh west afternoon sun, providing an outdoor space that is well shaded and protected from the rain with indirect views from the first floor. The red brick laced screen also creates a striking façade with its warm colour that juxtapose the surrounding context.
